              一、为什么要上食品与营养课? Why Food and Nutrition Class?

              Food and Nutrition is a course that helps students learn valuable life skills. The course teaches students how to cook a variety of dishes from many different cultures, with a stronger influence on Western dishes. This helps prepare students for the many different foods they will be exposed to when they travel abroad for University life. 

              食品与营养课是一门帮助学生学习重要的生活技能的课程。该课程教授学生如何烹饪来自不同文化的各种菜肴,课程内容更加偏向于西式烹饪。这样当学生们出国留学时,对自己接触到的许多不同食物就不会手足无措。

              Food and Nutrition also teaches students the basics of nutrition. Since good health and good nutrition are important to social, psychological, and even academic facets of life, it can help students to greater success in all aspects of their future lives.

              学生们在食品与营养课上也学习基本的营养知识。因为健康和营养饮食对我们的社交生活、心理状态甚至学业等各个方面产生重要影响,因此学习这门课程可以帮助学生在未来生活的各个方面取得更大的成功。

              二、除了烹饪方面,学生还有哪些收获? What Else Will Students Receive by Taking Food Class?

              I find it helps students build confidence. Most of my students come into my classroom with no experience in the kitchen. Many had never handled a knife or cooked any meal. By the end of the course, my students have prepared many different breakfasts, lunches and dinners, including pancakes, omelettes, pizza, sandwiches, Samosas (Indian dish), and experimented with dishes from countries around the world. Each success builds the confidence to try something harder, which leads to more confidence, so by the end of the semester my students have the confidence to prepare foods from many cultures and for anything they want to try.

              我发现食品与营养课能帮助学生建立信心。我的大多数学生走进我的教室前没有任何厨房方面的经验。许多人从来没有拿过刀,也没有做过饭。到课程结束时,我的学生已经能为自己准备各种不同的早餐、午餐和晚餐,包括煎饼、煎蛋卷、披萨、三明治、萨莫萨三角饺(一种印度菜),并体验了来自世界各地的菜肴。每一次成功都让他们更加自信,从而敢于去向更高难度挑战,而这又会带来更多的信心。所以在这学期结束的时候,我的学生们就有了信心去烹饪各国美食并愿意去尝试任何他们想尝试的东西。

              三、食品与营养课的课程重心是什么? What is the Major Focus in Food Class?

              I focus heavily on nutritional foods. I ensure that the foods they learn will help provide them with the vitamins and minerals they need for long healthy lives.

              我非常注重食物的营养价值。我确保学生们学到的饮食能为他们提供所需的维生素和矿物质,从而让他们健康地生活。
              四、你为什么要教授食品与营养课? Why Choose to Teach Food Class?

              I love being able to share my passion for delicious healthy food with my students. I like giving them the skills to ensure that when they travel abroad they will know how to prepare meals that they love, and are confident to try new recipes that they find along their life path.

              我喜欢和我的学生分享我对美味健康食物的热爱。我希望教会他们技能以确保当他们出国旅行时能知道如何准备他们喜欢的食物,并有信心尝试他们在人生道路上找到的新食谱。

              At the start of every semester, I see a class of students timid and nervous about cooking, but eager to learn. I love seeing those same students shine with pride when they make a food that tastes so good the teachers are lining up to try.

              在每学期开始的时候,我看到一个班的学生对烹饪小心翼翼、紧张兮兮,但是跃跃欲试。当这些学生在做好一种美味的食物时,当老师们排队等着品尝他们的作品时,他们眼中闪耀的骄傲正是我最希望看到的。

              Many of my students become so proud of their skills, they often tell me of how they share their new skills with their families, by cooking at home and creating new dishes, as they mix their cultural traditional dishes with the Western or worldly recipes we learn in class.

              我的许多学生为他们的新技能骄傲。他们经常告诉我自己是如何在家做饭来与家人分享他们的新技能的。他们甚至将自己文化中的传统菜肴与我们在课堂上学到的西方或大众食谱结合起来,创造出新的菜式。

              Foods class is about learning how to cook, and the best nutritional options for a healthy lifestyle, but it is also about helping students to gain confidence in a new skill, and building pride in something they create, and enjoying sharing.

              食品与营养课是学习如何烹饪,以及如何为健康生活做出最佳营养选择的技能课。同时食品课也帮助学生获得掌握新技能的自信心,建立他们对自己创造和制作的事物的自豪感,并学习享受分享的过程。
