              Pi Day 2019

March 14th is International Pi Day and to celebrate, the math department at DMLIS puts off an event every year.  The recitation of the digits of pi has been happening for years, but last year we decided to put a twist on this day and introduced our “Pi(e) the Teacher” event! How does it work? Well, our teachers graciously loan their faces to be auctioned off to their students or coworkers and the person with the highest bid gets the privilege to SMASH a whipped cream pie into their teacher’s face, hair, ears, nose, eyes and clothes (oops!)  This event is very special, as it not only gives us a chance to bring fun into math and enhance our school environment, but it also allows us to use the money we raise and give back to those in need.  The turn out this year was amazing and together with our students and staff we were able to raise approximately 18,000 RMB! All proceeds will go to various charities and we cannot wait to keep spreading the love of math and helping others. Remember, mathematics is not only for solving numbers. It’s also for dividing sorrow, subtracting sadness, adding happiness and multiplying love. J
